Getting to Know .... Jessica Sutten!

The CHD Public Health Team has a few new team members and in this special issue of ‘Getting to Know’ it is our pleasure to introduce you to Jessica Sutten, our new Prevention Specialist.

Jessica’s position is funded through a 3-year project under the ‘Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant’.  Jessica will be working with DeAnne Mansveld on the Prevention program with a focus to target youth alcohol and drug prevention.

Jessica got her BS from EOU in anthropology and sociology, with a minor in psychology.  She did her practicum at Grand Ronde Recovery Center (150 hours) and worked for NEON.  Her work with NEON included forming two community based focus groups, one in La Grande, and the other in North Powder, with parents in the Latino community in order to uncover barriers related to the Oregon Health Plan.  The work was through a $5,000 grant that Jessica wrote.

Originally from Enterprise, Jessica’s family moved to La Grande when she was a junior in High School.  After graduating from LG, she attended Southwest Oregon Community College for 2 years, and then was faced with two promising career choices – one by continuing her education, and the other by pursuing her athletic success in golf!  Lucky for us, she chose her education.

What are Jessica’s next steps in her new position?  Currently, she is in the data collection phase of her project (conducting community partner interviews).

In her spare time Jessica can be found outdoors fishing, camping or golfing (at the Buffalo Peak Golf Course), or, indoors painting, drawing or scrapbooking.

 Welcome to CHD, Jessica!

Hello Jessica! It's good that your company is looking forward working with you. First months would be surely an adjustment period but you can do it. Again, welcome!
