Oregon Problem Gambling Awareness Week is March 7-13, 2010

For most people, gambling is a form of recreation, pleasurable - though not often profitable. For some, however, the pleasure of gambling has spiraled out of control. It has become a serious problem that is similar to an addiction to alcohol or other drugs. The problem or pathological gambler can't stop - even when gambling becomes destructive.

Make the call if someone you know is playing out of control, call 1-877-MY-LIMIT for help. Licensed treatment providers are there to listen, help and make referrals to local treatment centers 24 hours a day. You can also visit the website at www.1877mylimit.org for more information and a chance to speak to an online counselor.

In Union County, free treatment is available for gamblers and family members (family members can be seen with or without the gambler) at Grande Ronde Recovery, 1101 I Avenue, La Grande.  For more information call 541-962-0162.
