Leader's Guide

Temperament Talk, A Guide to Helping Families with Challenging Children provides information about using the Parent's Worktext Temperament Talk, A Guide to Understanding Your Child in individualized and/or group settings. The information contained in the Leader's Guide includes: a copy of the parent's worktext, introductory material, guidelines for meetings with the parents, information on technical assistance and trainings available. At the back of the Leader's Guide, there is a supplemental section called "Implementing a Temperament Program at Your Organization." It is NOT necessary to implement a program in order to use Temperament Talk successfully with parents. Temperament Talk materials lend themselves easily to a variety of uses.

In addition, there are two sets of sample forms included in the Leader's Guide for reproduction. The first set, Sample Forms A, can be used with the parent's worktext, and reference is made to them throughout the guidelines. Additional forms may be found in Sample Forms B, which can be adapted to the needs of the facilitator.

The Leader's Guide pages are numbered consecutively, LG-1, LG-2, LG-3, and so on, throughout the edition. The Parent's Worktext pages in the edition are numbered exactly as they are in the parent's edition, for ease in working through the worktext with the participants.

Guidelines for the meetings are inserted just before each section of the Parent's Worktext materials. These guidelines consist of :

  1. "Dear Diane" letters, addressed to a hypothetical new user, which are narrative account s of tips for leading each meeting, and
  2. "Class Agenda", which are suggested outlines of each meeting.
